In Greek mythology Harpies are the personifications of storm-winds. These spirits were depicted as winged women, or with the lower bodies of birds and with ugly faces.
Known as the hounds of Zeus, they were
sent by the thunder-god to snatch away people and things from the earth. If someone went missing it would often be because of these creatures.
