The word "dragon" derives from the latin draconem which translates to "huge serpent". These beasts are common symbols of wisdom and evil, but in some cultures associated with good fortune. The dragon is one of the most beloved creatures of fantasy and folklore enthusiasts all over the world.
My guess is that the knight in this painting is not a fantasy or folklore enthusiast. Which is why my moral support clearly goes to the dragon.
